Sovereign Laboratories' product is unique in that it offers what is known as liposomal delivery, a processing method that encapsulates colostrum in a fatty shell to prevent it from being destroyed by the harsh, acidic environment in the stomach.

Additionally, Colostrum-LD is made from colostrum from dairy cows raised on pasture in the United States that have not been treated with synthetic growth hormone (rBST) or antibiotics (unless medically required).

To preserve the delicate nutrients in this so-called "first milk", the colostrum used in this nutritional supplement is quickly pasteurized and dried over low heat.

The combination of these properties distinguishes Colostrum-LD from most other colostrum powder products on the market.

Components

Colostrum-LD contains only two ingredients, including pasteurized bovine colostrum and sunflower lecithin. The latter is used to make the shell that protects nutrients - including themProline-rich polypeptides (PRPs)and growth factors – due to strong stomach acid.

Any drug or supplement can cause unwanted side effects, and cow's colostrum contains residual amounts of milk sugar (lactose).Many adults are sensitive or cannot tolerate anything.

Sovereign Laboratories has added lactase to some (but not all) of their formulas, an enzyme that helps the body break down lactose, greatly reducing the risk of gastrointestinal upset (even if you're lactose intolerant).

When I first started supplementing with Colostrum-LD, I did not follow the recommended dosing protocol, which was to slowly increase the dose over the first few days.

Instead, I took the full amount (2 tablespoons) from the first day and only felt slight bloating that went away after two or three days. The truth is, I'm not even sure if this gas was caused by the colostrum or by something I ate.

How we use Colostrum-LD

In the cramped household, we strategically supplement with Colostrum-LD if necessary.

For example, when we discovered that our son Lucas (who was born prematurely) suffered from food intolerances (leading to gastrointestinal problems), we gave him two teaspoons of bovine colostrum daily and also removed the offending foods.

The protein in some foods can negatively affect gut permeability, leading to leaky gut and an overactive immune response that can lead to inflammation, allergies and other problems. The nutrients found in colostrum can help heal a leaky gut (as I explain in more detail inthis article).

This allowed the irritated gut lining to heal faster while also improving immune function (which is directly related to digestive health).
